Kevin Smith And Johnny Depp’s Daughters Are Store Clerks In First ‘Yoga Hosers’ Image

The Hollywood Reporter has released the first promo image for Kevin Smith’s Yoga Hosers, and if you’re a fan of Smith, you’ll recognize his very distinct style.

Despite a less-than-lukewarm opening for Kevin Smith’s latest opus, Tusk (which took in $1.8 million just under two months back), Smith trudges on with this spinoff film. World famous actor Johnny Depp reprises his role from Tusk as Guy Lapointe, the eccentric, alcoholic detective, and shares the screen with Smith’s daughter (Harley Quinn Smith), along with his own (Lily-Rose Depp).

Yoga Hosers follows two high school teens (both of whom are also yoga enthusiasts) who have part-time jobs at the local convenience store.

“When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a 12th-grade party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe to fight for their lives with ‘all seven chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time,’ according to the producers.”

This is a film Smith was inspired to write based on the two teen leads’ short performances in Tusk. What was originally an idea to let his daughter and her best friend act in a quick scene turned into something much greater when Smith saw the natural chemistry between the two girls.

“Their onscreen chemistry comes courtesy of a lifelong friendship: Harley and Lily have known each other since first grade. Acting is a job of making choices, and Harley and Lily were making their own character and delivery choices from day one on the flick. At one point, I pulled them both aside to ask, ‘You are making excellent choices without me saying anything. What adult is telling you to do these things behind my back?’ The girls said they’d simply learned to act from watching movies and TV shows their whole lives. But in their case, acting and goofing around is in their blood. And it was thrilling to watch them both take their first steps in what’s bound to be a lifelong passion for performance.”

Smith has made it clear in many of his podcasts that it is unlikely his films will ever hit it big with mainstream audiences, but XYZ Films, the company that owns foreign rights to the flick, thinks Yoga Hosers may have a greater future ahead of it.

“It is a broad commercial movie that could really break out and become a franchise. I know that Kevin, the girls and Johnny all want it to be something more than just a one-off movie.”

Yoga Hosers is currently slated to hit screens in June of 2015.
