Spinal Tap Fans Celebrate Nigel Tufnel Day on 11/11/11

Spinal Tap gained a loyal following in the 1980s for one simple reason. Nigel Tufnel’s amp went up to 11. This Friday, 11/11/11, Spinal Tap fans will celebrate Nigel Tufnel Day in honor of the cult classic film.

Here’s the famous “these go to 11” scene from “This is Spinal Tap.”

More than 20,000 people have joined the Facebook group “Declare 11/11/11 Nigel Tufnel Day.” Unfortunately, President Obama hasn’t heard the call and it looks like we’ll have to wait another 100 years to celebrate an official Nigel Tufnel Day.

LA Weekly, however, isn’t going to wait for anyone to put the official stamp on the holiday. LA Weekly writes:

“By the power invested in us by that big-bottomed spirit in the sky, we at West Coast Sound hereby declare this Friday, November 11, 2011, 11/11/11, to be Nigel Tufnel day.”

That’s official enough for me.

So what do you do on Nigel Tufnel Day? Well, do everything at 11. Give 110%. Be just a little louder than possible. Or just re-watch “This is Spinal Tap,” maybe 11 times.

“This is Spinal Tap” was directed by Rob Reiner and starred Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Christopher Guest, who played the legendary Tufnel. The movie was so good that IMDB users ranked it an 8 out of 11.

Do you think Nigel Tufnel Day should be an official holiday? Will you be watching Spinal Tap this weekend?
