Jared Diet Robbery: Furious Dieter Goes On Robbery Spree After Subway Diet Fails [Video]

A Jared diet robbery spree allegedly took place after one man tried to lose weight by eating food from Subway restaurants and failed. An 18-year-old man from Birmingham named Zachary Rapheal Torrance was arrested in Hueytown, Alabama, after he was suspected of robbing four Subway restaurants. When questioned by police, he admitted that he committed the string of robberies after the diet Jared Fogle used to lose weight didn’t work.

Jared Fogle became a spokesman for the Subway chain of restaurants after losing a substantial amount of weight eating their sandwiches. Torrance decided to follow Fogle’s lead, according to the Daily Mail. When he didn’t experience the same success as the Subway spokesperson, Torrance used robbery as a means of obtaining a refund. Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler explained how the Jared diet robber felt about his failure to lose weight.

“He told the detective that he had been on the ‘Subway Diet’ and it had not worked for him and he felt like he wanted his money back.”

Security footage from the Subway restaurants showed an overweight man fitting Torrance’s description robbing the stores while waving a gun in the air. The man was wearing bright orange footwear. Those brightly colored shoes would later assist in his identification.

Torrance was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, according to the New York Daily News. His capture went down inside a local Walmart, where one of the shoppers recognized the suspect from photos posted on Facebook by the Hueytown Police Department.

The suspect was at Walmart purchasing a holster for the weapon that was allegedly used during the commission of the four robberies at Subway when he was caught. He was still wearing those easily recognizable orange shoes and the black jacket seen on Subway surveillance footage.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the so-called Jared diet robberies that were committed as revenge for one man’s failed campaign to drop the pounds.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle was the subject of a death hoax in May of this year when #RIPSubwayJared started trending on Twitter. Fortunately, the rumors were untrue, and Fogle is still among the living after paring his morbidly obese 425-pound frame down to a respectable 200 pounds. Fogle is entitled to free food at any of Subway’s locations. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he has an estimated net worth of $15 million thanks to his fame for creating the Subway, or Jared, diet.
