The Board of Control for Cricket in India claimed damages of $42 million over lost earnings from the canceled tour, which was expected to cripple West Indies’ ability to compete internationally in the future.
“It will be very difficult to play West Indies in bilateral series in future,” BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel told Reuters. “They have to demonstrate the willingness that such situations never happen again. I would say that India’s next tour of West Indies is highly unlikely to go ahead in the current situation.”
The series against Sri Lanka is a direct result of the canceled West Indies tour, ESPNcricinfo noted.
“Less than two hours after West Indies’ exit from their India tour was made official, SLC had, according to a press release, consulted all major office bearers, team management, coaching staff, selectors, and signed their side up for the series.”
Those who watch the India vs. Sri Lanka cricket match live online will be missing some familiar faces. India will be resting captain MS Dhoni for at least the start of the series, and other key players are expected to take a decreased role for both squads.
