‘Minecraft’ TU18 Update Gets Spooky With Wither And Witches Tease For PlayStation And Xbox

4J Studios let loose with another teaser image Friday for Minecraft Title Update 18 for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The picture bears out the assumption that The Pretty Scary PC Update will be included and that means Withers and Witches and Bats — oh my!

The console developer of Minecraft made the reveal in its usual way by posting an off-screen picture of a console running the game with a plush animal nearby. In this case, the image is of Minecraft: PS Vita Edition with some unfortunately horrible lighting.

That image is kind of tiny with the PS Vita buried at the bottom of the picture like that. Let’s “zoom and enhance” to get a better look at what is exactly on the screen.

Minecraft TU18 Tease

That off-blue looking thing in the middle of the screen is the Wither boss. A three-headed boss mob that is hostile to pretty much everything else in the game, including the Ender Dragon. The only other mobs it will tolerate is the undead bunch of Skeletons, Zombies, and Wither Skeletons. It attacks by shooting Wither Skull projectiles that explode on contact and drain player’s health while increasing the Wither’s.

On the left side of the screen, you can see two Witches. You can tell because of the little black pyramids on the green blocks. Witches make their home in the Swamp biomes by spawning from witch huts. They also can spawn anywhere in the Overworld with a low light level. They are hostile towards players and will throw potions that poison, slow, weaken, or harm the player. They can also use potions defensively to heal, resist fire, breathe under water, or move faster.

Many items from the PC 1.4.2 release like flower pots, potatoes, carrots, and anvils were already added to the console edition of Minecraft with the TU14 release. The confirmation that the Pretty Scary Update will be included in TU18 also means that the following unreleased features will also most likely be added.

  • Bats
  • Beacons
  • Nether Star
  • Infections

Monster mobs may also be more difficult now. The Minecraft Pretty Scary Update allowed them to pick up items, weapons, and armor to use against the player.

There’s still no word on when Minecraft TU18 will be released for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. 4J Studios’ only mention was that it would be a while.
