‘Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Robert Kirkman Tweets It May All Be Happening Inside Rick’s Mind

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman wants to assure fans of the hit AMC show that when the series eventually ends, it will not be as a dream inside Rick Grimes’ mind — or will it?

According to an article posted on Uproxx, columnist Dustin Rowles suggests the entire series could actually be taking place inside a still comatose Andrew Lincoln:

“When I woke up this morning, I had a strange thought in my head,” the article starts, “and it was this: What if Rick Grimes never woke up from his coma in The Walking Dead pilot and the entire series is a dream? I was like, ‘OH MY GOD, I’ve broken it open! I’ve solved The Walking Dead.’ Then I rubbed the crust out of my eyes, had a cup of coffee, and realized how incredibly maddening and stupid an ending that would be.”

After demanding Kirkman go on record to dispute this theory, Robert took to Twitter to do just that:

But then Robert did something very Kirkman-esque, teasing that everything else that takes place in The Walking Dead after he wakes up could be:

Concluding his tweet with the hashtag “#joking?” is sure to send Walking Dead fans into a tizzy. But most likely Kirkman is telling the truth and the life-and-death struggle with the undead that has gripped fans for five seasons is actually happening in the fictionalized world of TV.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

And speaking of Season Five of The Walking Dead, fans are eagerly awaiting the next episode following last week’s cliffhanger involving Norman Reedus’ character Daryl. After finally ridding themselves of the nasty cannibals from Terminus, Rick and the rest of the gang split up to await Daryl and Carol’s return. At the end of the episode, however, Michonne finds Daryl walking out of the woods. He then yells for someone to come on out, but the screen cuts to black before we get to see who it is.

All throughout the week, the big question across the internet has been who is in the forest. As reported by the Inquistr, many spoilers suggest it could be Beth, who had gone missing. But if that’s the case it may also mean that Carol, who went with Daryl to find Beth, could be dead.

Either way, at least The Walking Dead fans can be sure it hasn’t all been just a dream.
