Days of Our Lives is saying goodbye to Alison Sweeney this week, but her iconic character Sami Brady may not be gone for good.
Sweeney announced earlier this year that she would be leaving the soap opera for a move behind the camera. The actress and The Biggest Loser host will now be directing episodes of General Hospital.
At the time, Sweeney told Hollywood Life that she was ready to move away from the rigors of filming a soap opera.
“The head of it was wanting to be more available for my family and have more time to spend with them and be more flexible with my hours. I still have a lot of big stuff I want to work on and projects I want to be a part of, and if I want to make all those things happen there would be something I’d have to give. So I decided to take some time away from ‘Days’ and see what else is out there.”
Sweeney said she will miss Days of Our Lives and all the friendships she has made.
“Well, gosh, I’m going to miss these people!” she said. “I’ve been friends with these people for a long time and they’re like family to me and so that part is really hard for me. I grew up with them!”
In the show, Sami Brady is leaving Salem to write a tell-all script in Hollywood, but she won’t be gone for good, Alison Sweeney shared.
“I’d love to come back to ‘Days,'” Alison told Hollywood Life this week.
Sweeney said there could be plenty of opportunities for a return, including the show’s 50th anniversary.
“I talked to Ken [Corday, executive producer] about it, and was like for the 50th, if he has a big plan, I would love to be invited back,” Alison said. “I’ll be honest, anything is possible in soaps right? You can come back no matter what. I would come back for weddings and funerals or whatever. It was my way of trying to help minimize the chance of them killing me off!”
While Alison Sweeney didn’t offer any Days of Our Lives spoilers regarding her return, she wouldn’t have to go far. Both Days and General Hospital film in West Hollywood, California, with the studios just about 20 minute apart.
