A 21-year-old man, Isaiah Zoar Marin, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Stillwater, Oklahoma, after the death of an area college student who was nearly beheaded.
KFOR reports that new graphic details were released by the local police department regarding the gruesome killing. The victim was 19-year-old Jacob Andrew Crockett. Police say that the suspect and victim were simply "acquaintances" with Crockett attending class at Northern Oklahoma College, but was planning to transfer to OSU.
Police say that on Wednesday afternoon, a 911 call was made by Marin. He told the dispatcher that he had just killed someone.
"I murdered someone."The dispatcher also noted in the report that Marin then began "rambling about sacrificing and magic." When police were dispatched to the area, they found Marin walking along State Highway 51 just west of Stillwater. He was covered in blood and was still carrying the sword in his hand. When the officers approached Marin, he simply said he had just hacked someone to death.
"I hacked them to death with a machete."Marin was very forthcoming when confessing to the murder and it was Marin's information that led police to Crockett's body. Police note that the motive is not exactly clear. However, Crockett's brother Jesse told police that Marin was a "heavy drug user" and that he was also a "religious zealot."
It appears that Isaiah's brother, Samuel Marin, may have expressed the likely motive when he told police about the murder. Samuel said that he and Isaiah were playing a card game and the victim was in the room with them. Samuel stated Isaiah had been watching YouTube videos related to his Christian beliefs and during the card game, Isaiah picked up a large black sword and began swinging it. Samuel stated he heard a noise "described as the sound of someone getting stabbed. He stated he looked up and saw Jacob stand up and blood gushing from his chest." Samuel told police that Isaiah was still holding the knife.
Scared, Samuel ran from the apartment. He said his brother followed him attempting to calm him down.
" [He said he] would explain why he killed Jacob from letters he would write while he was in prison."Samuel told police Crockett and Isaiah had disagreements in the past over religion. Samuel said that Crockett and his brother, Jesse, the one calling Marin a "religious zealot," were practicing witchcraft. Meanwhile, Isaiah had strong Christian beliefs.
According to KSWO, the murdered student was a State Trooper's son. However, police do not think that the position of the murdered man's father had anything to do with the killing.
This isn't the first beheading in Oklahoma. Earlier this year, a man beheaded a female coworker.
