Three Children Struck By Truck Walking To School In Louisiana: Two Confirmed Dead [Breaking]

Breaking news out of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana reveals that three children were hit by a truck as they were walking to school this morning. A State Police spokesperson told KATC News that the driver of the truck did not stop after he hit the children.

Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer told KATC News that the driver of the truck “reportedly hit the children on Martin Street near Babineaux Street, then continued on to Babineaux.” It was on that street where the driver proceeded to run off the road and land himself in a ditch after hitting a telephone pole.

The Breaux Bridge Police were able to get to the scene and arrest the driver while he was still in the ditch. Sandifer reports that the driver, who has not been identified at this point, is currently in State Police custody.

KTBS News reports that two of the three children were killed at the scene of the accident while the third child who was hit remains in critical condition at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Although it has not been confirmed, police speculate that the driver may have been impaired at the time of the accident. His charges have also not been revealed. An ongoing investigation continues and more information will be given as it is reported.
