WWE News: ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage Could Finally Go Into The WWE Hall Of Fame In 2015

It has been a long time coming, but it appears more and more likely that former WWE Superstar “Macho Man” Randy Savage could be going into the WWE Hall of Fame. Many have wanted him to go in for some time now, even WWE has. However, there has been some issues in getting that done. Lanny Poffo, Randy’s brother, owns the name rights of Savage and does not want WWE to induct Randy alone.

Lanny claimed that after the Von Erich Family all went in together, if he ever got a shot to go in, Randy wanted to make sure that the entire Poffo family went in at the same time just like Von Erich’s. This made sense and also didn’t. The Von Erich family was known mostly for their territory days in WCCW, of which they owned. After the company went down, a few of the brothers performed in WWE and other promotions. Kerry Von Erich was really the crown jewel of the family and someone WWE loved. He had a body on him and he was a very talented wrestler. Sadly none of he other brothers really got to perform with WWE. David, Michael, and Chris all were talented performers for various promotions throughout America and Japan.

Kevin was talented like all of his family members, but he was not the guy who people saw as the top talent in the family. He was never technically with WWE in his time as an active wrestler but was a big part of the wrestling industry.

Drugs were rampant among the family members. This among many issues caused many of them to take their own lives. To this day, it is one of the biggest tragedies in all of wrestling. Kevin is now the only one left from the family of the five brothers who wrestled (there was a sixth who died young). All of the brothers barring Kevin died in the 1980’s and early 1990’s due to suicide, drug use, or accident. At the time of their WWE Hall of Fame induction, Kevin was the only one of the immediate family left, father Fritz died years before. They were famous as a family more over, not as individuals. WWE in seeing that wanted the family to go in.

Meanwhile the Poffo family is by no means famous as a family. Angelo Poffo, the father, was a terrific territory performer. However, Lanny Poffo, also known as “The Genius” was nothing more than a mid-carder in WWE. While he could go into the Hall of Fame, he is by no means a top billed performer that WWE would throw in alone. Then we have Randy Poffo. Randy didn’t want people to know he was related to a great wrestler in his father, so he used a ring name, Randy Savage. Eventually the “Macho Man” moniker was added.

Savage’s voice, mannerisms and so much more made him a character that fans could get behind. Add in that his mic and ring work were the best of the time to many. He was able to hang with the likes of Hulk Hogan and is considered to have with Ricky Steamboat, the best match in WrestleMania history. Literally, there are very few who were as good as Savage.

That being said, Savage deserves to be in alone. However, if he had a wish that Lanny is being truthful about, it is better to respect his wishes than not. While Randy could have wanted to into the WWE Hall of Fame as a family, many want him in alone. He deserves that.

The Rock did not go in with his family, because he deserves a nod on his own. So why can Randy not get that?

WWE may be willing to give it to Lanny, just to get Randy. According to the Wrestling Observer, there is a “strong feeling” they will all go in next year. This is also helped due to the new WWE BlueRay/DVD called “Macho Man: The Randy Savage Story.” The documentary contains new commentary by Lanny. Lanny is also featured in anything Savage related on the WWE Network currently. Lanny previously did not have anything good to say regarding WWE, especially after Randy’s death in 2011. This is one of the first times we have seen him do anything WWE affiliated.

Since two of the three would be going in posthumously, the Poffo family would not be the top billed names on the Hall of Fame card. That is set to be Wrestling Legend Sting as far as we know.

Either way, it is a long time coming for the former WWE Champion. Randy Savage deserves to go into the WWE Hall of Fame alone, but if he will go in at all, fans will be happy. He is more than worthy of being in right now, but it is better late than never to most fans these days. Sadly, there is no word on if Miss Elizabeth will go in with them yet.
