Mary-Kate Olsen Reportedy Weds 44-Year-Old French Banker, Olivier Sarkozy
It’s official. After much speculation regarding a secret wedding between former child star Mary-Kate Olsen and French banker Olivier Sarkozy, Lucky Magazine has confirmed the two are married.
The two were spotted last month lunching in the Hamptons, New York sporting matching gold wedding bands, which seemed to be a dead giveaway, as per MSN.
Mary-Kate,28, began dating Sarkozy in 2012 before becoming engaged on February 14, 2014, as reported by Yahoo! News. Although their dating was not a popular subject with the media, nor with Sarkozy’s ex-wife, Charlotte.
Due to their 16-year age difference, that seemed to be the main focus for the media. Charlotte Sarkozy who married Olivier in 1997 and remained his wife for 13 years was vocal from the very beginning regarding her ex’s relationship with Mary-Kate, as reported by Daily Mail.
“That’s not right. It’s grotesque.”
In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Mary-Kate shared a glimpse of her thoughts on the media’s overwhelming interest in her love life and the age difference between her and her man.
“Everyone has an opinion. I find it’s better to focus on what’s in front of you and to keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
And putting one foot in front of the other is exactly what Mary-Kate has seemed to do.
The love of her life is the half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In his own right, Olivier is head and managing director of the Carlyle Group’s global financial services division. Sarkozy has two children from his previous marriage, Julien, 14, and Margo, 11, as per MSN.
While some may not exactly approve of Mary-Kate and Olivier’s union in marriage, let’s not forget that Mary-Kate is a smart cookie.
Wall Street Journal reports that Mary-Kate and her sister, Ashley have grown up to become “extraordinarily savvy brand nurturers, founders and owners of an estimated $1.5 billion business empire (Dualstar) and, now, designers of the critically acclaimed high-end fashion line The Row.
According to The Huffington Post, the couple will continue to live in the New York townhouse purchased by Olivier in 2012. Olivier purchased the East Village, 4,200 square foot townhouse for the price of $6.25 million.
Mary-Kate is rumored to love this home because of its “historic charm,” according to The Huffington Post. It was designed and built in 1854 by James Renwick — the same architect who designed New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Now that Mary-Kate and Olivier are married, the question coming to the surface is will they start a family of their own.
As for Mary-Kate’s sister, Ashley, according to News, she is also currently involved with a much older man — Moneyball director Bennett Miller, who is 20 years her senior.
