Los Angeles Reporter Doesn’t Know Her Mic Is On, Makes Brutally Honest Comment About Anchor [Video]

A Los Angeles reporter is putting her foot in her mouth after a hot mic incident.

Ginger Chan, a reporter for KTLA-TV, made an embarrassing mistake when she made a brutally “honest” comment on air about news anchor Sam Rubin. Rubin was joking with other news anchors about a statement his wife recently made.

“My wife calls and is like, ‘Since when did you become the fat guy on that show?'”

Right after Rubin makes the statement, Chan can be heard saying, “He’s always been!” When the camera pans to Ginger it is apparent she had no idea her mic was hot. In fact, she can be seen grabbing for the mic and placing her head in her hands.

Fortunately for Chan, Ruben has a good sense of humor about the situation. The Blaze reports that Rubin wrote later on Facebook that he wasn’t upset over the “very honest and very funny moment.”

Rubin even penned an opinion piece on the “f word” for Medium after the incident in which he notes he is not among the morbidly obese.

“This ‘F’ word is particularly loaded, because I think our definition of fat has changed over the years; mostly as many of us have gotten fatter. If you were to hook me up to a polygraph machine and ask me if I thought I was out and out fat; I would say that I wasn’t. Sure, I can stand to lose a few pounds; who couldn’t. But am I among the morbidly obese? I don’t think so.”

“All of this has come to a head recently, or perhaps belly is a better location, as one of my colleagues innocently expressed the opinion that indeed I am fat. Not a big deal; except she made the observation as our live morning TV news show was being broadcast all over Southern California; and then of course the clip went viral; and now more than a half-million folks have seen this “fat” clip on line, all around the world.”
