Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Will Host The Golden Globes One Last Time

Looks like third time is a charm for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Poehler, who’s currently promoting her new book, Yes Please, told the Today show that this will be that third and final time hosting the Golden Globes with Tina Fey.

“It’s the law of diminishing returns,” said Poehler.

“This is our last time. Unless you want to be a perennial host, there’s nowhere to go but down! We hope by making this the last time it’ll be like our farewell tour. We’ll be the Jay Z of the Globes, and we’ll never retire.”

Although this will be their last time hosting the Golden Globes together, this doesn’t mean that the two won’t collaborate. Both Poehler and Fey have known each other way before they got their start on Saturday Night Live.

Vulture went down the history of Amy and Tina, and it’s quite comprehensive. The pair met in 1993 back in a Chicago ImprovOlympic class. Soon after that, the two performed improv together and became inseparable. The pair was well known for performing together in the Second City Touring Company and by 1996, Poehler started her own sketch group called the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York. Between that time and SNL, the two continued to perform together in Chicago and in New York.

When Fey finally got a spot as a writer on SNL, she begged Amy Poehler to join her but Poehler was hesitant. She finally agreed to join in 2001 and for the first time, everyone was exposed to the brilliance of this tag team.

Of the memorable time, Fey said, “I was so happy. Weirdly, I remember thinking, ‘My friend is here! My friend is here!’ Even though things had been going great for me at the show, with Amy there, I felt less alone.”

The two went on to collaborate on Mean Girls together, and Baby Mama. One of their most successful collaborations is their joint hosting at the Golden Globes.

For their second outing as hosts they received rave reviews just like the year before. The Wrap said of their opening monologue, “The ‘Saturday Night Live’ veterans started the show with a 10-minute wall of laughter. It was the best opening monologue — make that dialogue — of any awards show in recent memory. They set a high bar none of the winners or presenters could match comedically, so they found other ways to entertain.”

Are you excited to see Amy and Tina host one more time?
