‘GTA: San Andreas’ HD Remake Hits Xbox 360 For Less Than Four Bucks

Xbox 360 owners in the mood to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may be in for a little treat Sunday. Thanks to what appears to be either an Xbox Marketplace price mistake or some sort of promotion, the downloadable HD re-release of GTA: San Andreas from Rockstar Games is practically being given away.

You can purchase “GTA: San Andreas” from the Xbox Marketplace for just $3.74. There’s no telling how much of a discount this is or if it is a discount at all because Rockstar never announced a price. For comparison though, the HD remake for the iPad and iPhone is $3.99, however, suggesting that $3.74 may be a real price.

This HD remake of “GTA: San Andreas” is filed under the Xbox 360’s Games on Demand service and replaces the Xbox Originals version. Rockstar upped the resolution to 720p, improved the draw distance and also added Achievements.

There are 22 known Xbox LIVE achievements with another 11 secret achievements for a total of 33. Here’s the known Achievements list from Rockstar’s support website.

Oddly, there’s been no word of a HD re-release for GTA: San Andreas for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. There’s PS2 Classic version of the game available on the PlayStation Store, but it does not come with Trophy support or improved visuals.

It should be noted that GTA: San Andreas is available for $3.99 on the PS Store as well. That’s what makes the Xbox 360 HD remake price of $3.74 seem odd at first glance. It’s very unusual for a developer to create an upgraded version of a console game like this at a cheaper price. Good on Rockstar Games though if this is true.
