Vampires are a Halloween classic, evidenced by the passage of True Blood into television history, the success of Dracula Untold, and the impending return of Anne Rice’s ever popular The Vampire Chronicles — Prince Lestat, the first entry in nearly 40-year-old series in 11 years, is due out October 28. Between Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Batman vs Superman, and the recently released Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, 2014 has been the year of the superhero. Why should Halloween be any different? Besides, who doesn’t want to star in their own comic book for one night? No superhero fits with the dark and broody nature of Halloween better than Batman, so if you can have one superhero cocktail, go with The Dark Knight Rises. The are many variations, the simplest of which calls for blackberry vodka. Garnish the cocktail with a lemon or pineapple cut into the shape of a bat signal.
Game of Thrones Season 5 may still be months away, but the dark and violent nature of the series and the stunning costume design make it a perfect fit for Halloween. The easiest route is to buy the newest Game of Thrones inspired beer, Valar Morghulis, if you can find it. If the Seven aren’t on your side, try any of the Game of Thrones inspired cocktails from Paste Magazine. While not specifically for Halloween, these exotic cocktails fit right in. For the biggest wow factor, try Wildfire on Blackwater Bay cocktail (served garnished with a flaming lime peel) or The Dragon Lady cocktail (served with cubed dragon fruit).
This cocktail is inspired by the ultimate so-funny-it’s-scary nostalgia movie Ghostbusters. With rumors still swirling about Ghostbusters 3 starring an all-female cast, this costume and it’s corresponding cocktail couldn’t be more topical. With peach schnapps and melon liqueur, the Ghostbuster cocktail couldn’t be more delicious. The ghostly blob in the center is made with Irish cream liqueur.
