Chrissy Teigen Says ‘Bye Twitter’ Due To Death Threats, ‘Hate And Anger’

Model Chrissy Teigen posted a farewell message on her official Twitter page on Thursday morning.

This farewell message came as a result of the negative reactions and even death threats that Chrissy Teigen received after posting satirical yet controversial tweets on Wednesday morning. The message directly referred to the October 22 shootings that occurred in Ottawa, Ontario. According to Yahoo News, a Canadian opened fire close to the Parliament building in Ottawa — injuring multiple victims and killing one soldier.

Chrissy Teigen did not take very long to defend her message. It was perhaps the tweets that followed the initial post which really caused the death threats and negative backlash to start circulating.

“That’s not a joke. It is a fact. Sorry you don’t understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting. I’m not apologizing. If you take it wrong, that is your fault.”

Even after clarifying the intent of his original tweet, Chrissy Teigen still continued to receive a lot of negative comments and death threats through messages and mentions on Twitter. Instead of completely avoiding and ignoring them, the 28-year old model re-tweeted quite a few of them along with her own responses.

Chrissy Teigen even had a little fun with a few of the responses that she received — either applauding them for their creativity or mocking them.

Shortly before Chrissy Teigen decided to say “bye” to Twitter, she explained her overall reaction to the mentions, backlash, and death threats that she had received as a result of one post that seemed innocent to her. Teigen stated that her Twitter account had become a “sea of hate and anger,” admitting that she “can’t sift through it all.”

“I can’t see anything through the sea of hate and anger that is now my Twitter. Seriously I can’t sift through it all. It’s gotten to the point people don’t even see [the] simplicity of the original tweet and have just wanted to get shaking-mad over something.”

What do you think? Did Chrissy Teigen deserve the comments that she received for her controversial tweet?
