Archaeology has improved in its methods and scope over the past decade or so, to a point we are discovering and learning more than we ever did before. Mysteries about certain discoveries are coming to light, thanks to archaeological advancements. The Inquisitr has kept up-to-date on these stories. For example, the view that all Viking settlers were all or mostly male was debunked when Viking graves revealed their numbers were half men, half women. There was also an archaeological discovery in Spain of a glass patin depicting Jesus Christ with short hair and no beard.

Now there are reports that the Shigir Idol -- the world's oldest wooden statue -- has markings featuring encoded information on the "creation of the world."

According to an article by Siberian Times, and followed up by the Daily Mail, the Shigir Idol -- which stands at 17.4 feet tall -- is the oldest wooden statue in the world, and is estimated to be about 9,500-years-old. That makes this really tall statue twice as old as the Great Pyramids. It was originally discovered in a peat bog on the western fringe of Siberia.

Svetlana Savchenko, the chief keeper of the Shigir Idol, believes the structure's seven faces carries encoded information from ancient man in the Mesolithic era of the Stone Age concerning their understanding of "the creation of the world."

German scientists are now closer than ever to precise dating, which the Siberian Times will reveal. Right now, it is estimated that the results will be available in late February or early March of next year.

Until then, Russian academics are turning to interpreting what the encoded message is saying by better understanding of the symbols and pictograms on the Shigir Idol. In between research sessions, it can be seen on display in a special glass sarcophagus at its permanent home in Yekaterinburg History Museum where Svetlana Savchenko is senior researcher.

Professor Mikhail Zhilin, the leading researcher of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Archaeology, explained his experiences as well as what was learned about the Shigir Idol.

"We study the Idol with a feeling of awe. This is a masterpiece, carrying gigantic emotional value and force. It is a unique sculpture, there is nothing else in the world like this. It is very alive, and very complicated at the same time."

"The ornament is covered with nothing but encrypted information. People were passing on knowledge with the help of the Idol."

Videos on YouTube, especially from Real Thing TV and Above Science, have taken a more religious direction with the etchings in which the Shigir Idol is an interpretation of a giant race known as the nephilim from both Jewish and Christian texts, specifically the Book of Enoch. However, this is just theory based off of what was already discovered about the idol.

What do you think about the Shigir Idol? Do you think the etchings are a hidden message on the "creation of the world?" Do you think it may have a connection to nephilim as explained in the videos?
