The news is finally here!

Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband Derick Dillard, who are happily counting down the days until they welcome their first child this spring, were finally able to share the gender.

The couple is expecting a bouncing baby boy!

Jill had recently revealed that she felt like she was having a girl, but it seems like she and her family are just as thrilled to be welcoming a baby boy. As for the moment that the couple was finally able to find out what the gender of their upcoming arrival, Jill says, “Oh yes, there was some screaming in the room. I thought all along we were having a girl. Everyone made their guesses.”

In the room with Jill and husband Derick, presumably screaming when the gender was revealed, were her siblings Joy, 16. James, 13 and Jenny, aged 7.

So what does Daddy Dillard think of having a son as his firstborn? He’s absolutely thrilled, of course, but like most parents, both Jill and Derick were simply praying for a healthy baby.

“I was really excited,” Derick said. “As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special…I was praying for a big, healthy baby.”

“Just healthy, healthy,” Jill added – and can you blame her? Not many women actively wish for a big baby!

As for Grandma and Grandpa Duggar’s reaction to the addition of another grandson, of course they were thrilled. Can you imagine these particular parents of 19 children being anything but thrilled with a new baby, no matter what the gender?

“They were just elated,” says Jill. “My mom and dad both thought it was going to be a boy and my grandma did, too. They are all really excited.”

Last August, Jill discussed possible baby name options with ET Online. At that time, Jill said that she and Derick did not plan on following the family’s famous initial trend (Jill is, after all, one of 19 children whose name all starts with a “J” and big brother Josh Duggar and wife Anna have, so far, named all of their children with names that begin with an “M”). They are, however, considering other naming traditions, such as possibly naming their children after family members.

The very expected Duggar-Dillard baby is due to arrive on March 24.
