AmazonFresh Debuts In NYC: Online Grocery Service Offers 500,000 Items To Choose From

AmazonFresh, the online grocery service, has made its way to the east coast.

The New York Daily News reports that a brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood is the first in New York City for AmazonFresh. The service, called AmazonFresh, offers more than 500,000 items for home delivery. Selections include typical supermarket fare, plus household goods, electronics, and an assortment of products from New York specialty shops. This means that shoppers in the service area will be able to order groceries from the convenience of their own home and have them delivered to their doorstep.

How exactly does it work? According to the AmazonFresh help page, there are two different options available for those utilizing the service. With Doorstep Delivery, you choose a three-hour time window that works best for your schedule — you don’t even have to be home. They will leave your items on your doorstep in temperature-controlled tote bags and pick them up with your next delivery. To be eligible for Doorstep Delivery, your driver must have unrestricted access to your doorstep without having to call you. The other option is Attended Delivery. With Attended Delivery you select a 1-hour appointment when you will be home to receive the delivery.

Some of the benefits of Attended Delivery are as follows.

  • Shorter 1-hour delivery windows
  • In-person delivery straight to your kitchen
  • No totes or other shipping supplies to store in your home
  • The option to include alcohol purchases with your delivery
  • Delivery to buildings with secure entry or limited access

AmazonFresh notes that quality is not an issue with their service. In fact, the items are packaged so that the food remains in proper storing condition for an hour after your delivery window time.

“Doorstep Deliveries will be packed with frozen water bottles. The water is safe to consume, and the bottles are yours to keep, dispose of, or recycle. While we encourage you to retrieve your groceries as soon as possible once delivered, this packaging is designed to maintain the correct temperature of your products for up to 1 hour after the end of your delivery window.”

Individuals utilizing AmazonFresh in New York City are guaranteed same-day delivery if their order is placed before 10 a.m. The innovative grocery option was first introduced on the west coast and is offered in Seattle, some Southern California locations, and some Northern California locations.

What do you think of the concept? You are only required to purchase $35 worth of items to qualify for the delivery. Would you consider using an online grocery store?
