An Ebola scare at the Pentagon prompted swift response from hazmat and emergency medical teams. The Arlington News is reporting that a woman on a Pentagon bus tour, who had recently been to Africa, suddenly began vomiting.
Pentagon Force Protection Agency representative Chris Layman told the media that Arlington County’s hazmat team was called immediately after officers learned that the unnamed woman had recently returned from Africa. A section of the Pentagon South parking lot has been cordoned off and all those not employed by the government agency are reportedly being told to avoid the area.
The possible Ebola patient has reportedly been transported to the Virginia Hospital Center.
Arlington County officials issued this release about the possible Ebola at the Pentagon case.
“At about 9:10 a.m. today, Pentagon Police officers identified a woman in the Pentagon South Parking Lot, around lanes 17-19, who was ill and vomiting. Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) was notified and responded immediately with both emergency medical aid and HazMat response team.
During the response, the individual allegedly indicated that she had recently visited western Africa. Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot, while Arlington County responded to the scene. At 9:53 a.m, the patient was taken to the Virginia Hospital Center; however she did not exit the ambulance. ACFD then transported the patient to Fairfax Inova Hospital.”
County public health officials are still investigating the incident. Arlington County did activate its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and a Joint Information Center (JIC) protocols to help manage the incident, according to the release. “Out of an abundance of caution and to allow the investigation to proceed, pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the Pentagon South Parking lot’s lanes 7-23 will remain restricted until further notice. The Corridor 2 entrance to the Pentagon is also closed,” the statement concluded.
Arlington News as given an unconfirmed tip that the woman who vomited on the Pentagon tour bus had recently visited Sierra Leone. Whether or not the unidentified woman also had a fever is currently unknown. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, President Barack Obama just appointed an Ebola czar to oversee the health crisis. CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden testified before Congress regarding the Ebola crisis both in America and around the world. Dr. Frieden still insists that a travel ban is not necessary and will not help contain the deadly virus.
