Chris Noth Said What About Carrie Bradshaw!?
Big and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) shippers, be prepared to have your hearts broken because you’re not going to like what actor Chris Noth has to say about the Sex and the City character.
As viewers know one of Carrie’s epic romances was with Mr. Big, whom Chris Noth played on the show for six years. Now he’s landed in hot water after he made a joke that hasn’t gone over too well with fanatics.
During a press junket, Noth referred to the character Carrie Bradshaw as a whore.
Noth went on a tirade of his own to an Australian news site. The quote came out of a response in which he compared Mr. Big’s nature to Carrie’s.
“One of the things I tell people is that he never tried to pretend he was anything other than what he was. It was [Carrie] who tried to pretend he was something he wasn’t. He was always honest about himself — he never cheated on her. The relationship just didn’t work, and he went on to get married while she went on to … how many boyfriends did she have?”
He continued, “She was such a whore! [laughs] There’s a misconception that Carrie was a victim of him, and that’s not the case — she was a strong, smart woman.”
Since Noth called the character a whore, fan response has been huge which has created quite the sticky situation for those who were intimately involved with the making of the show. Co-creator of Sex and the City Michael Patick King tried to glossed over Noth’s “slut shaming.”
He told BuzzFeed, “Well, I’m sure Chris was kidding when he joked that, note the laugh afterwards. We always had a wonderful time working on SATC and I know he has the greatest affection for Sarah Jessica Parker as an actress and a friend. To take his comment any other way would be a ‘Big’ mistake.”
Sex and the City writer Jenny Bicks had a bit more fun with Noth’s comment.
“Oh my God, that’s such a ‘Big’ thing to say! I will totally agree with Chris (and one generally should, as he is very big) on the fact that Carrie was a strong, smart woman (most of the time). However, he seems to have forgotten that he may not have cheated ON her, but he certainly cheated WITH her when he was married and Carrie was single. So, I would say that’s kinda slutty of Big.”
So far Chris Noth hasn’t cleared up his comments about Carrie. As for the rumors about a third film, they are still not confirmed.
