Heidi Klum and Seal finalized their divorce on Tuesday, according to Yahoo! Celebrity.
Based on a report released by TMZ on Thursday, the settlement of their divorce was a “clean break.” There were no problems splitting their properties, especially since their property settlement agreement was reportedly established months ago. Neither of the former spouses have to pay spousal support.
This might come as a surprise to many fans and critics — especially since Heidi Klum and Seal did not have a prenuptial agreement developed when they first got married in May of 2005.
However, Heidi Klum and Seal did create a post-nuptial agreement at some point during the seven years of their marriage. According to TMZ, this post-nuptial agreement was established to keep the vast majority of their earnings separated. A confidential custody arrangement was also worked out between the two of them in reference to their four children — including Heidi Klum’s 10-year old daughter Leni, who Seal adopted back in 2009.
Heidi Klum originally filed for divorce back in April of 2012, two months after she and Seal publicly confirmed their separation.
In an interview with Katie Couric conducted in September of 2012, Heidi Klum stated that splitting up with Seal was not “something that [she] wanted.”
“It’s not something that I wanted… When I said ‘I do’… I meant forever. But life changes… I don’t know, we just couldn’t make it work. I tried my hardest… he tried his hardest, [but now] I want to move forward. I want to be friends with him, I want us to be there for our children.”
After rumors that Heidi Klum filed for divorce from Seal started to circulate, the couple issued a joint statement to confirm the ending of their marital bond.
“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate… This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.”
Perhaps that is why Heidi Klum and Seal worked hard to make sure that their divorce was as simple and “clean” as possible.
The 41-year old Project Runway host and model started dating Martin Kirsten, the bodyguard of the family, shortly after Heidi Klum and Seal decided to go their separate ways. After that relationship ended back in January, Heidi Klum started dating 28-year old art dealer Vito Schnabel.
