Amy Poehler: ‘I Loved Cocaine’

In her new memoir, Yes Please, Amy Poehler opens up about her about experiences with drugs, and the Parks & Recreation star admits that she has tried and “instantly loved” cocaine.

Excerpts from the beloved actresses book have been popping up all over the place over the last few days, but it will be here admission that she tried cocaine that will really shock her fans. Especially since she has become a household name thanks to her efforts as the squeaky clean politician, Leslie Knope, on the heavily praised NBC sitcom.

“I tried cocaine, which I instantly loved but eventually hated. Cocaine is terrific if you want to hang out with people you don’t know very well and play ping-pong all night. [However] it’s bad for almost anything else… the day after cocaine is rough”

This excerpt comes courtesy of The Mirror, and in Poehler’s book it will apparently be found underneath the chapter entitled “Obligatory Drugs Stories.”

The actress also admits that she took ecstasy at the United Citizens Brigade’s New Year’ Eve party, which resulted in those in attendance dancing, drinking water and admitting that they “loved each other.” However, she also went on to write about the day after the soiree, which she made sound hellish.

“I also remember the next day when I thought I had no friends and I was so sad I wanted to sink into the carpet and permanently live there.”

Meanwhile the Golden Globe winning actress also opened up about what she has learned from taking mushrooms, which was so important she felt the need to share it with the rest of the world.

“Everyone needs love, never hurt a living thing [and] don’t worry about the choices you make because everything will be fun because life is a closet filled with pool toys.”

Poehler also went on to confirm that now that she has her two children, six-year-old Archie and four-year-old Abel, she is unable to even comprehend dealing with the hangovers that come with taking drugs.

“The next day is the thing I can’t pull off anymore. How do you explain to a four and six-year-old that you can’t play Rescue Bots because you have to spend all day in bed eating Cape Cod potato chips and watching The Bicycle Thief?”

However, Poehler did admit that there is still one drug that she still partakes in from time to time, as she declared that she smokes marijuana to help her relax.

“I can’t perform, drive or write stoned, and therefore I smoke pot a lot less than I used to.”
