Glen Campbell: His Final Emotional Song And Video Released [Video]

Glen Campbell fans have been extremely supportive after his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease. Campbell’s career spans over five decades of incredible music. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and received a Grammy lifetime achievement award, according to CNN. Campbell’s most recognizable hits were Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman.

Campbell received his diagnosis in 2011, the same year he released his final album “Ghost on Canvas” and went on to perform in a farewell tour.

Writing and singing songs that moved him is what Glen loved to do most with his music, as he told USA Today in an interview just last year.

“I always wanted to sing songs from the heart. I still do.”

That is exactly what Glen has done with the release of his last song ever to be recorded, I’m Not Gonna Miss You. The song opens with the lyrics “I’m still here but yet I’m gone / I don’t play guitar or sing my songs.”

The song and video tug hard at the heart strings as it depicts the moments of Glen discussing his brain scans with the doctors, as well as home videos of personal family gatherings, memories and performances.

“You’re the last person I will love / you’re the last face I will recall.”

Those are the words Glen sings to his wife, Kim.

Campbell always seemed to take his diagnosis in stride and was ready to face it head on. In 2012, Glen, 78, told CNN during an interview exactly how he felt about his diagnosis.

“I just take it as it comes, you know. I know that I have a problem with that (forgetfulness), but it doesn’t bother me. If you’re going to have it handed to you, you have got to take it, anyway. So that is the way I look at it.”

Six months ago, in April 2014, Glen Campbell was admitted to special care facility in Nashville. His family made a public statement at that point, as reported by Daily Mail.

“Sadly, Glen’s condition has progressed enough that we were no longer able to keep him at home. He is getting fantastic care and we get to see him every day. Our family wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers, love and support.”
