Gillian Anderson Begs For Role In Ghostbusters 3 — Asks Fans To Start A Petition


Gillian Anderson is a science fiction icon. Anderson secured that position with her role as Dana Scully in television’s most influential science fiction show, the X-Files. Today, Anderson wants a role in the new all-female led movie Ghostbusters 3, according to www.dailymail.co.uk.

Gillian Anderson is so determined to land a role in the film, which is being directed by Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig, that she has touted herself for the role enthusiastically by making her availability clearly known. The new movie is expected to center itself around a new generation of female stars. Anderson knows a role in Ghostbusters 3, could give her career a big time boost and put her back on the most in demand actresses list. Anderson has made the fact she wants a role in the new film a very public fact.

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything Session, Anderson made her availability and eagerness very clear.

OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free!” Gillian wrote.

A Reddit user actually offered to campaign on Gillian’s behalf. Gillian was quick to reply with a ‘Make It Happen!’

Bill Murray, the star of both previous Ghostbusters recently told MTV that he thinks the female roles in Ghostbusters 3 should go to Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. Stone, who appeared with Murray in Zombieland, Stone called the recommendation ‘pretty nice,’ but has yet to confirm if she is interested in the role.

Anderson has been asked on many occasions if a new X-Files movie is in the works.

“Uh….uh… uh… Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground. Hope is out there,” The Guardian reports Anderson responding coyly.

Born in 1968, Anderson began her career in theater. Besides the X-Files, Anderson has starred in the films The House of Mirth, The Mighty Celt and The Last King of Scotland. Anderson also played Hannibal Lector’s psychotherapist, Bedelia Du Maurier, on the series Hannibal.

Anderson has five Primetime Emmy Awards nominations to her credit, and she won one. Anderson also has five Golden Globe Awards nominations with one win.

X-Files creator Chris Carter told Empire Magazine that everyone involved in the X-Files was interested in getting back together, and he had an idea for a movie in his head.

No official casting decisions have been made for Ghostbusters 3, and its clear Anderson is going to continue to make her availability and desire for this role a well known fact. Another fact is that Anderson has science fiction fans across the globe cheering her on.
