EA dropped Battlefield 1943 bonus from PS3 version of Battlefield 3

Remember back when EA promised PlayStation 3 users that the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 would ship with a free digital copy of Battlefield 1943, the bite-sized, Frostbite-powered taste of Battlefield 1942? Yeah, about that..

Apparently, at some point EA decided not to do that, and never bothered to tell anyone about it until now. Instead, the bonus PlayStation 3 users will be getting is one that EA already announced last month, and that is a one-week exclusivity period for all “expansions”.

“In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers,” EA said via the official Battlefield Twitter account.

As revealed last month, that week-long exclusivity period includes the upcoming “Back to Karkand” expansion, which was made available to those who pre-ordered a copy of Battlefield 3. There’s no word just yet on when that’s due out, however.

EA likely didn’t mean any foul play by neglecting to make good on their promise, but I’d say they at least owe their fans a better explanation as to why they aren’t getting a pre-order bonus they were promised. Rehashing an announcement and calling it a bonus won’t cut it, and I’m not entirely sure what that “Battlefield 1943 being available on disk” part is supposed to mean.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that you’re missing out on a free copy of Battlefield 1943, or are you content with what you received?
