Eric Bana to Play the King in New Elvis Presley Movie

Eric Bana will be stepping into a pair of blue suede shoes to play Elvis Presley in the upcoming movie, “Elvis Nixon.” Danny Huston is currently in final negotiations to play everyone’s favorite Republican President, Richard Nixon, in the movie which will mark Cary Elwes directorial debut.

Elwes also penned the movie, which centers on a visit that Presley made to the White House on Dec. 21, 1970.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Presley wrote Nixon a six-page letter requesting permission to visit the White House so that he could be made a “Federal Agent-at-Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. UKPA reports that Presley gave the President a Colt 45 as a present during the visit.

Sooooo what else happens in “Elvis Nixon?” Details about the movie are scarce, but there has to be more to it than a cordial meeting at the white house and a colt 45 wrapped in a bow.

In Elvis’ letter to the president, he writes:

“I would like to introduce myself. I am Elvis Presley and admire you and have great respect for your office. I talked to Vice President Agnew in Palm Springs three weeks ago and expressed my concern for our country. The drug culture, the hippie elements, the SDS, Black Panthers, etc… do NOT consider me as there enemy or as they call it the establishment….

“Sir, I can and will be of any service that I can to help the country out. I have no concerns or motives other than helping the country out. (You can read the full letter here.)”

Was Elvis a nark? Will the film dive into Elvis’ life as a double agent secret super spy? But more importantly, will the Australian born Eric Bana be able to pull of a convincing Elvis Presley?
