Phaedra Parks ‘Will Be Better Off’ Without Apollo Nida

Phaedra Parks is planning to divorce her husband, Apollo Nida, and according to a source, she’s doing the right thing.

Earlier this week, The Inquistr reported Parks had obtained a lawyer. While the Real Housewives of Atlanta star had stuck by her husband for the last several months, as he dealt with his fraud trial, she is now calling it quits and hoping to “amicably” end her marriage.

“Phaedra is really disappointed with how all of this has turned out,” a source close to Parks told People Magazine on October 11.

Last month, after being found guilty of multiple charges of fraud, Nida was sentenced to eight years behind bars. Prior to the couple’s 2009 wedding, Nida had been in prison, but according to the source, Parks was unaware of her husband’s recent indiscretions.

“[Phaedra Parks] had no idea any of that [illegal activity] was going on,” the source said. “This divorce is going to be the best thing for her. Apollo was always really jealous of her success and the fact that she was the breadwinner.”

Now that she’s taken steps to move on, Phaedra Parks is focused on her career and caring for her and Nida’s young sons, Ayden, 4, and Dylan, 1.

“The really sad part is their two little boys having to go through all of this,” says the source. But all in all, “[s]he knows she will be better off without him. She’s a strong woman and a great mom and really adores her boys.”

As for why Phaedra Parks waited so long to file, a source told Hollywood Life she was scared.

“She was scared. Point blank. She was scared,” the source explained. “With all the drama and problems in Apollo’s life, he was off the chain, emotional and unpredictable, and she thought that if she presented him with divorce papers before he went into prison, it could have possibly had a very bad ending.”

On October 10, as The Inquisitr reported, Phaedra Parks’ rep, Steve Honig, released a statement, explaining the reality star’s decision to split from Nida.

“There was no way Phaedra was going to put her life…awaiting Apollo to be released,” the rep explained to Radar Online.”The marriage was a huge mistake, but did give her their beloved kids. There were serious trust issues… Phaedra suspects he has been unfaithful and has been burning through money.”

Phaedra Parks returns to Bravo on November 9 in the seventh season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
