Vince McMahon reportedly wants Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in at least one more WrestleMania main event, and according to SportsKeeda, he’s “willing to pay through the roof” for it.
While some have speculated — given last Monday Night Raw‘s surprise appearance — that The Rock’s opponent at WrestleMania 31 would be Rusev, the website is reporting that Vince McMahon has bigger plans than that. Those plans were allegedly discussed in a recent meeting with The Rock, adds Daily Wrestling News.
Brock Lesnar, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, has a part-time contract that expires shortly after WM31. (It would apparently be his last big show to work under the current agreement.)
Instead of the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar main event that was expected, McMahon thinks The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar would put more people in the seats and skyrocket the pay-per-view buys and WWE Network subscriptions.
Of course, McMahon does not share his feelings publicly on things like this, but the scenario would make a lot of sense, and might even get one more big WrestleMania appearance from The Rock out of it at WrestleMania 32.
Well, as many of you know, WWE has big plans for Roman Reigns. They would like to see Reigns become the future face of the WWE, but most agree that he’s not ready for that big of a responsibility at this time.
Throw in the human interest angle that The Rock and Roman Reigns are actually cousins in real life, and you’ve got the makings of a pretty decent story.
Besides, The Rock could probably help Reigns elevate his game in the ring and on the mic, and he would presumably be more willing to do so since there is a blood connection.
Of course, if it’s true, it does create more questions.
For instance, what would it mean for the WrestleMania 31 outcome? Would The Rock beat Brock Lesnar, take the title, and then assume a part-time status similar to Lesnar’s while holding on to the title for the next year leading up to WrestleMania 32?
Would Lesnar get a dirty win, and then start beating on The Rock at next year’s event only to have Roman Reigns save the day and get an impromptu title match similar to WrestleMania IX and the Hulk Hogan-Bret Hart-Yokozuna triangle?
Tantalizing possibilities, to say the least. But what do you think, readers?
