Selena Gomez To Ellen: Not ‘Perfect,’ ‘Awkward’ 20’s & ‘Not Right Now’ For NYC

Selena Gomez didn’t address her recent split with Justin Bieber on Monday’s taped edition of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” but the 22-year-old had plenty to say about an “awkward” year full of positive and negative changes.

After Ellen noted the starlet has new management and a new record label behind her, she asked the “Come & Get It” songstress to reveal the “most exciting thing” about living alone now that she owns her first new home in Los Angeles.

Selena said she has a roommate from her home state of Texas, then elaborated, saying,

“It’s good. I can walk around naked now and stuff. Honestly,” she went on,”I just enjoy not being able to have to check in all the time, ‘cos my mom is the sweetest ever so even now she checks in on me.”

Selena, who looked stylish in a monochrome dress, added,”I think that’s the best thing, is just being able to go into my own space and it just be mine.”

After revealing that she paints (but is not “good”) and has a “Moroccan theme” home, her host asked about speculation she might join pal Taylor Swift in New York City.

Answering frankly, the Latina said her friend of seven years “wants to kidnap me” and has been “begging” her to move to New York whenever they speak on the phone.

Continuing, Selena said that although NYC has “been a really good thing” for Taylor who “stepped into her own and became a woman there,” for her, the Big Apple is something.

“I feel like I might [do] eventually, but not right now.”

The conversation turned more serious when Ellen asked the Disney alum “Where are you right now?” on a scale of 1-10, after working on herself this year.

“I’m a seven,” Selena declared after a moment’s reflection. “Yes!” she confirmed after her host said, “You’re a seven?”

The actress-singer explained, “Yeah. You know this year’s been… you know I feel like I have been doing this so long that people tend to forget that they’re all like ‘be yourself, be yourself,’ and I’m still trying to figure out who that is.”

She added, “So, I know I’m not perfect, but I know I have a lot of people that support me and love me.”

The pretty brunette admitted, “I don’t know, I don’t want to let anyone down. So I just try to be the best I can be. It’s awkward being 20. In our 20’s.”

At that point, Ellen agreed that growing up in front of cameras and in the public eye must be awkward. To her credit, Selena replied,

“But that’s when I get to do amazing things like use my platform for things like UNICEF or kind of just shift everything into what’s important and what actually matters in the world. So that’s my plus side.”

Meanwhile, amid speculation that Justin’s friendship, alleged texts and lunch meet with the supermodel Kendall Jenner during a recent Paris Fashion Week trip with Selena is behind their split, publicist Jonathan Cheban recently offered his opinion in a video interview with Us Weekly.

After stressing that Kendall is just a friend of Justin’s, Cheban said of Bieber and Gomez’s romance,

“They’re a great couple, on and off. They give everyone entertainment and I’m friendly with both of them. I like them both. They’re very cool.”

“This is the best way to do a Hollywood relationship — they’re on for a few months, they break up. But ultimately, if they love each other and they’re settled down in a year or two, then they’ll reconnect and keep it going.”

Cheban continued, “It seems like with the two of them it’s a forever thing, because it does not end. It keeps going and going. They’re a good match.”

Despite the emotional turmoil Selena may be going through, the pop princess recently said in an interview for her latest movie Rudderless, that she related to the emotional character she played and is now letting her heart take the wheel in her own life.

“Being vulnerable and dealing with things is something I can relate to right now because I am figuring out how to deal with all those emotions,” Selena said, adding,

“So I think I’m wanting to continue to go wherever my heart is taking me.”
