What’s Next For Paula Patton Now That She’s Divorcing Robin Thicke?

On Wednesday, it became crystal clear: there’s no getting her back. Paula Patton is divorcing singer Robin Thicke. What’s not so clear, though, is what the starlet’s path forward will be as her marriage to Thicke is finally undone.

Paula Patton and Thicke’s relationship has been gossip fodder for months now, at least since Thicke got his first certifiable hit single with last year’s “Blurred Lines.” At the time critics wondered how Paula could possibly be okay with with the song’s racy video, which featured Robin, T.I., and Pharrell Williams cavorting with a number of topless models.

The video itself might not have killed Patton and Thicke’s marriage, but the fame Thicke got from it looks to be a likely culprit. Almost overnight, Thicke went from virtual obscurity to stardom and that’s about when the cheating allegations started stacking up. There were reports of “threesomes gone awry” and questionable photos of the singer appearing to feel up starlets that weren’t Paula.

Paula and her husband of nine years separated in February of this year, and Thicke mounted a frankly embarrassing campaign to get Patton back. “Get Her Back” was, in fact, the lead single off Thicke’s newest album, entitled Paula.

The gambit didn’t work, though, and Thicke’s album flopped even as Paula appeared to move on.

Worse still, Patton filed for divorce this week. Citing irreconcilable differences, Paula asked a court in Los Angeles for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four-year-old son, Julian Fuego Thicke.

Thicke might be looking to see how he’ll bounce back both in his career and in his relationships, but Patton has a career of her own and Patton will have to move on after the dissolution of her marriage. What does the future hold for Paula?

Patton will turn 39 this year, but she’s still been pretty busy in the movie biz. She played the female lead in 2011’s Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and she also had roles in 2013’s Baggage Claim and 2 Guns. Going forward, she’s also rumored to have a role in Mission: Impossible 5, which may have a 2015 release. Teaming with Tom Cruise again could certainly provide a boost to the newly single Patton’s prospects, even though Paula has yet to take a true lead role in a film.

Even further out, Patton will have a role in 2016’s Warcraft, based on the popular online role-playing game World of Warcraft. That flick is set for a March 11, 2016 release, not the most optimistic scheduling for a film that is obviously meant to be a blockbuster.

In terms of relationships – because that’s totally what we all care about with famous women – Patton is already said to be moving on. Reports in September had Patton flirting with Justin Theroux, the betrothed of none other than Jennifer Aniston. That supposed bit of canoodling reportedly didn’t sit too well with Aniston, and rumor has it that she put the kibosh on Paula and Justin’s flirting tout de suite.

More recently, Paula is said to have been getting close to singer/writer/DJ Zak Waters. How close? The pair are said to have already moved in together even as Thicke self-immolates on the tabloid scene and wonders if maybe one more single-topic album would be enough to swing Paula back his way.
