Patrick McGoohan Dies Aged 80


Emmy award winning actor Patrick McGoohan has died in his Santa Monica home aged 80.

McGoohan was best known as as Number Six in The Prisoner, a sci-fi kafkaesque 1960s British series where he plays a former spy held captive in a small village, where a mysterious authority named Number One constantly prevents his escape. McGoohan came up with the concept and wrote and directed several episodes of the show.

McGoohan won Emmys for guest spots on Columbo in 1974 and 1990.

He appearances in film included the warden in Escape from Alcatraz, a judge in A Time To Kill, and the English King in Braveheart.

He is survived by his wife Ioan Drummond, and three daughters.
