Weatherman Forgets How To Hold A Cup During Live Broadcast [Video]

We’ve all had those mornings when nothing has gone right. Normally, that just means throwing your phone into the bin instead of you half-eaten danish, locking yourself out of the house without your car keys or putting odd shoes on. But it appears as though meteorologist Barry Burbank had possibly the biggest brain-freeze ever during a live-broadcast on WBZ-TV in Boston, when he was seen holding his coffee cup upside down.

However, this isn’t what it seems. Because it turns out that Barry knew exactly what he was doing, and his decision to hold his cup upside down was actually a one-man protest because he never gets any coffee in the morning.

You can watch Barry’s ingenious demonstration below, which can be seen about 28 seconds into the clip.

As you can imagine, the internet soon lit up with various Reddit and Twitter posts surrounding Barry’s apparent lapse in concentration.

The scenario played out on Saturday morning, when Barry was hosting the morning show with Kerry Connolly. Viewers were shocked to see Barry holding his cup upside down when the newscast came back after a commercial break, and alongside the hoard of Reddit and Twitter users who commented on it, Barry was even lampooned in Jimmy Fallon’s monologue on Monday’s The Tonight Show too.

However Barry has since taken to the camera to explain that he had held the cup in this manner to protest the fact that no one ever puts coffee in it.

“In the past on some mornings I say, ‘You know my cup is always empty. Nobody ever puts anything in my cup. So I said, ‘Let’s go on the air and I’ll have my cup turned upside down and maybe see if people notice that the cup is upside down.’ They always say that my cup is always empty, not just half full or half empty, it’s always empty, so there you go, cheers.”

Despite the rather logical reason behind Barry’s unique prank, he will no-doubt be turned into an internet meme that will now be blazoned across the world-wide-web for years to come. Let’s hope that as result of his efforts, Barry is now able to get some coffee in his mug. Otherwise, he’ll really look like a doofus.

Barry will now join other legendary weathermen who have been made to look rather silly on air. This includes Al Roker, who missed a taping of his own show when he overslept last summer, and the weatherman who found out that his car had been hit by hail live on air.
