Truck with President Obama’s Teleprompter Stolen, Recovered

Good thing he’s a prolific speaker and can go on even without a teleprompter. You see, authorities are now investigating the theft of a truck that contains President Barack Obama’s teleprompter, podium, presidential seal and other speaking equipment.

The truck was reportedly stolen from the parking lot of a hotel in Chesterfield in Virginia and was eventually recovered in another parking lot. The equipment was valued at $200,000.

The Defense Information System Agency, the group that provides communications support for the president, said that no classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle. According to the agency’s statement:

“A government vehicle was stolen and has been recovered. No classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle. We take incidents such as this very seriously, and a formal investigation is continuing in coordination with relevant law enforcement agencies.”

The agency still has to confirm though if anything was stolen from the truck before the thieves ditched it.

This incident brings back memories of the amendment filed in February by GOP Rep. Steve Womack proposing to cut funding for the president’s teleprompter. Womack then said:

“We’re asking people to do more with less, and I think the president ought to lead by example. He is already a very gifted speaker. And I think that’s one platform he could do without.”

Is Womack, despite withdrawing the proposal, our main suspect now?
