Ariana Grande To Portray Gloria Estefan On Broadway’s ‘On Your Feet’?

Is Ariana Grande heading to Broadway again? If singer Gloria Estefan has it her way, she just might. Even though Grande has been getting flak from critics over her alleged diva attitude, she’s getting compliments from all the right people in the industry.

According to the New York Daily News, Estefan really wants Grande to portray her in her Broadway show On Your Feet!, named after the Cuban singer’s popular song by the same name.

The two have one thing in common — they’re both fellow Floridians. Gloria lives in Miami Beach while Ariana is from Boca Raton. That and Estefan recounted when she first met the budding artist, and even back then Gloria knew she would be huge if she put in the work.

Of the singer, Estefan said, “Ariana Grande would be somebody wonderful. I saw her when she was 8 years old on a cruise ship and she had sung this song, and I literally went up to her and told her and her mom, ‘I don’t know if you plan on doing this, but this is what you need to be doing because you are an amazing singer.'”

She continued, “She was doing Karaoke and we were listening because I love to go watch that stuff and it was amazing!”

As for the Broadway production of Estefan’s On Your Feet! The musical will be directed by Kinky Boots’ Jerry Mitchell and choreographed by Jersey Boys’ Sergio Trujillo.

The musical will be bilingual and will focus on Estefan’s early career in Miami as well as her recovery, after she broke her back in a 1990 bus accident that at the time made headlines worldwide. It sounds like the musical will be a real story of triumph with a salsa flair.

Additionally, it’s said that a reality television show will be a large part of casting the lead. That said, we don’t really see Ariana Grande being up for a reality television show, seeing as she’s already a huge presence in the industry and doesn’t need that kind of exposure. Then again, her big brother Frankie was recently a contestant on Big Brother, so who knows?

If Ariana gets the role as Gloria this will not be her Broadway debut. She made her big debut back in 2013 in the musical 13.
