Modi Challenges Sachin Tendulkar

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has challenged Sachin Tendulkar and all of India to participate in a Clean India campaign.

The challenge could not have come on a better day than on the birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who was a strong proponent of cleanliness.

Fresh from his trip to the United States, Modi, on Thursday, launched the nationwide campaign which seeks to get India clean by October 2, 2019, the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

According to Reuters, several government officials have been called in on Gandhi’s birthday, a public holiday in India, to work to help clean up their offices.

In his speech launching the campaign, Modi called upon several Indian celebrities to join him in a Clean India social media challenge. Most notably, Modi has enlisted, cricket sensation, Sachin Tendulkar as one of the celebrities to join the challenge.

The International Business Times has reported that Modi hopes to make use of social media so as to capitalize on the mass following of celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar.

Modi’s ingenious style was evident in the way he issued his challenge to Sachin Tendulkar and fellow celebrities.

“We have launched the campaign on social media. If you see any filth anywhere, upload a photo of the place. Then clean it, and again upload a photo to show the difference. I have nominated nine individuals in the Clean Inida campaign: Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Anil Ambani, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, actors Kamal Haasan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and all the television actors of Hindi serial ‘Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chashma’. They will nominate nine people each, and this chain will continue through social media. When you upload a video of cleaning, nominate nine others to do the same.”

Sachin Tendulkar has since accepted Modi’s challenge in a video posted on his Facebook and Twitter pages.

Modi could not have selected a better celebrity than Sachin Tendulkar to be apart of his social media challenge. He is deeply loved by all Indians and has a massive social media following. The Inquisitr reported that 19 million people signed up to purchase tickets for Tendulkar’s final game before his retirement.

Sachin Tendulkar’s video post received 64,342 views, 1,282 shares, 773 comments and 21,115 likes within two hours of being posted.

Sachin Tendulkar was last year conferred the Bharat Ratna, Indian’s highest civilian award. Since then he has committed to use his influence to help address India’s social problems.
