Lisa Ling Reflects On Porn, Twitter, And Working For Oprah

Lisa Ling has been chatting to CNN about her Twitter addiction, what Oprah is like as a boss, and pornography, the subject of the latest ‘Our America,’ Ling’s weekly documentary show.

With ‘Our America’ returning to OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network this week, Ling reveals the boss lady herself is very hands-on, noting: “Oprah watches everything and will sometimes give notes. She is very active in the process.” Winfrey screens each episode of ‘Our America’ before it airs.

During the forthcoming season of ‘Our America,’ Ling covers sex trafficking, polygamy, and investigates the world of amateur online porn, the latter of which made Ling feel squeamish, but also fascinated:

“Porn is a multi-billion dollar industry and the world of porn is undeniable. So for me, while there are tremendous uncomfortable moments, I was also riveted and absolutely fascinated by this world.”

Another episode focuses on extreme parenting styles, which Ling describes as “a very fascinating look into different approaches to parenting. We spent time with four families who have completely different styles,” before adding, “They are literally shaping these little people into adults.” Well yes, I’d say that’s an accurate description of child-rearing.

Whatever her thoughts on the next season of ‘Our America,’ you can probably expect to hear more on a good social network near you, with Ling confessing a Twitter obsession: “I’m a self professed Twitter junkie,” she says. “And I spend so much time on Facebook. It’s highly addictive.”

The second season of “Our America” airs on OWN Sunday, October 16.
