Will Anna Kendrick’s The Fappening Photos Be The Last?
The Fappening has been ravaging the internet with leaked nude photos of celebrities for nearly a month now. Over the weekend, the most recent wave featured more naked pictures of Jennifer Lawrence and the promise of nudes of actressAnna Kendrick and model Cara Delevingne. However, The Fappening’s many fans may have noticed something rather tame about the images of Kendrick. After weeks of graphic videos and full frontal nudity, Anna’s The Fappening shots were just of her doing pretty normal stuff — while wearing clothes.
Of course, the innocent leak of Kendrick’s not-nude photos begs the question — why even release Anna’s pictures along with the rest of The Fappening if she’s not naked in them? Of course, Anna’s name recognition alone is guaranteed to attract people to a new batch of photos. But if there’s not not even a grainy, poorly lit scrap of naked Kendrick to appease viewers, why headline the newest batch of The Fappening with her name?
Furthermore, why use Jennifer as a headliner for the third consecutive time? Lawrence may be a higher ranking star than even Kendrick, but it does seem rather odd that the leaker would sit on photos of Lawrence or publish clothed shots of Kendrick. Like a shrewd poker player running out of luck, it’s possible that The Fappening’s mastermind doesn’t have that much left to release, and is slowly doling out what little has has left to give.
Although Anna has not yet released an official statement about becoming a victim of The Fappening, Kendrick has, like most of the women, been less vocal on social media in the last few days. Even if the photos taken of Anna weren’t intimate, they were still private — making the experience unnerving either way.
The Independent reports that the FBI is still investigating the matter, while Apple has concluded that targeted attacks resulted in the information being compromised, as opposed a flaw in its iCloud system. Still, the paper notes, photos of stars like Kendrick released during The Fappening are extremely difficult to stop once they have begun to go viral.
“As the speed at which photos are shared online means they are distributed faster than anyone a delete them. On top of this, Reddit and 4Chan users hide behind anonymity, making it more difficult to track suspects down and stop future leaks.”
