Bungie Defends ‘Destiny’ DLC Content On Disk, Fans Still Not Happy

A load of information about the two upcoming Destiny DLC expansions for the PlayStation and Xbox leaked out thanks to a glitch that was shared by an unfortunate user. Fans of the sci-fi shooter were calling foul since this information is already stored on the disk. Bungie Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague responded to this accusation Monday on the developer’s community forums, but some fans were still not happy.

The leaked information revealed that the two upcoming expansions will both include approximately four story missions, two strikes, one raid, and three Crucible maps each. Additionally, players found ways to glitch into areas in Destiny such as The Seraphim Vault and King’s Watch during the alpha. Interestingly, neither of those is mentioned in the DLC content that was discovered.

We noticed that you noticed that we already have plans for upcoming content packs in Destiny.

We do! They have activity names (which may or may not change) and we have a really good idea what they’re going to contain. They even have placeholder nodes in the Director, as you’ve already discovered.

But neither of the Expansion Packs we’ve announced are finished.

People at Bungie are hard at work to complete content for our first post launch pack, “The Dark Below,” as I type these words. It will be finished soon. It releases in December. Soon, we’ll detail it out for you so you can see exactly what we’ve been working on.

Thanks for playing. Thanks for the passion. We know you want details. We’ll talk more soon.

The immediate reaction from some users on the Bungie forums was negative overall. Destiny players harshly knocked everything from the game’s story to the developer’s communication.

So, when are you guys going to start piecing together a coherent story and actually explain things rather than throw more vague nonsense at us that we just have to interpret? You know, like everyone was expecting when we dropped $60+ on this beautiful but incomplete game? – Malacite

So you expect us to stick around to December so we can play more sub-level 30 content and be rewarded with more Legendary items to throw on the scrap heap? – Derity

I have my degree in PR and let me just tell you, what a masterful attempt at cover up.
However, you and the rest of the bungie staff are fools if you think this will cover up your faults. – Xaladin87

Some Destiny fans on Reddit were a little more forgiving.

His hands are tied, he can’t say much but that won’t be enough for those that just want someone to blame. Incomplete and still being worked on, like that’s a surprise to most of us.

People shouldn’t jump to conclusions. – Quietly_Confident

just further evidence that Bungie doesn’t want to be one of “those” companies…

I still am very optimistic about the future, this upcoming content just has me licking my lips.. – charterbus3

Like I said, people are just trying to find a reason to light their torches right now. And I’m far from an apologist, I was pretty pissed about what happened with Reach. But theres a reason Bungie still is my favourite game studio, and it’s because of moments like this.

They care, listen, and respond in a timed and considerate manner to the community, always have, always will – blue_dingo

To be fair, there were both negative and positive comments on both forums. The negative ones just stood out more to me on the Bungie forums and the positive ones stood out more on Reddit as I was gathering these.

What do you think about Bungie’s comments about the upcoming DLC content being discovered on the disk? Are you willing to wait and see? Let us know in the comments below.
