Michael Strahan To ‘Magic Mike XXL’: ‘LIVE’ Star To Take On Racy Role In Movie Sequel
LIVE with Kelly and Michael star Michael Strahan is leaving co-host Kelly Ripa behind for a new adventure. Though Strahan has a lot on his plate these days, it seems a new opportunity arose that he simply couldn’t turn down. Strahan is making an appearance in the film Magic Mike XXL.
Strahan shared the news with Ripa and viewers on Monday’s show. Apparently the Michael Strahan Magic Mike XXL appearance will be a pretty racy one. As Kelly Ripa and her co-host dished out the news on Monday, they shared clips of past interviews with Magic Mike star Channing Tatum. It’s been a joke for a while that Strahan would appear in the flick, and now it’s officially happening.
Michael added that he’s had a chat with the movie’s costume designer already, and there won’t be much of a costume involved. That, of course, led Ripa to offer up some help in preparing for the role. The chat devolved into quite the hilarious segment, as LIVE fans may now be bracing themselves for a step-by-step Instagram or show segment following Strahan getting waxed for the role.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the Magic Mike sequel brings back most of the original film’s stars. Channing Tatum, of course, will be in it, as will Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, and Gabriel Iglesias. Alas, Matthew McConaughey fans, he will not be in this one. Reports indicate that Jada Pinkett Smith and Amber Heard have joined the sequel cast as well.
Magic Mike XXL is slated to premiere in theaters on July 1, 2015. What is Michael Strahan’s role in the flick? It is said he will be a male stripper, naturally, though it doesn’t sound as if it will necessarily be a significant role. The movie, which is already in production, will catch up with the group of male strippers featured in the first film. Some would say that the storyline beyond that just isn’t very important.
According to TMZ, Michael Strahan’s Magic Mike XXL role is one where he will definitely be topless. However, anything more racy than that is said to still be in discussions. Of course, while these movies are racy and suggestive, but they are still rated R, so nobody will be seeing Strahan in all of his glory.
While lately Kelly Ripa is the one typically making headlines for her racy stories, like the butt selfie she accidentally sent to her in-laws, now it seems it’s Strahan’s turn.
