Alabama Vs. Ole Miss Football Showdown: Rebels Cody Prewitt Said What?!?

Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the Ole Miss Rebels in one of the biggest SEC games scheduled for this Saturday, October 4. Both teams are coming into this game undefeated, (4-0) as they meet head-to-head at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, according to The Blow. However, let’s note that the 4-0 start for the Rebels is their first such start since 1970, according to Fox Sports.

While Alabama had a bye on Saturday, Ole Miss whipped up on Memphis with a final score of 24-3. Knowing this would bring them into the Alabama game undefeated, this may have given Rebels safety Cody Prewitt a little more confidence than he should have vocalized, according to Bama Hammer.

“We understand that we haven’t played a team that’s going to be as good as Bama. But we don’t really think Bama is as good as they have been. And we’re better than we have been. We’re looking forward to getting to the game plan and really nailing down all the tweaks and stuff that we’re going to have to put into Bama.”

Is Prewitt the only one who doesn’t remember Alabama slamming Ole Miss last fall 25-0?

Rebels running back Jaylen Walton also has a strong opinion of his teams’ strength this season, telling Fox Sports, “I believe we’re just as good as all of the Top 10 teams, or the whole Top 25 itself. With the new playoff, we have a great opportunity to show, not only our league, but the world, that we’re supposed to be in the conversation of the top four.”

We will see if that holds true as they face the Crimson Tide.

Credit should be given in regards to the Rebels getting No. 18 in the polls to start the season. They won 35-13 against Boise State in Alabama, followed by a 41-3 win against Vanderbilt at the Titans LP field, and scored a 56-15 win against Louisiana-Lafayette prior to Saturday’s 24-3 win against Memphis.

While the Rebels’ defense has been impressive, their offense not so much. In Saturday’s game against Memphis, quarterback Bo Wallace “threw two interceptions, both on promising drives in the red zone, and fumbled. Ole Miss turned the ball over four times,” as reported by Fox News. They will have to do better than this when they face off against Alabama.

Even with a bye on Saturday, Crimson Tide moved into the number one spot on the USA Today Coach’s Poll, while remaining in the number three spot in AP. The Blow reveals that offensively, “Alabama averages 335.8 yards per game in passing and 258.5 yards in rushing. Defensively, Alabama yields an average of 188.3 yards per game in passing defense and 62 yards per game in rushing.

Is it possible that Ole Miss Rebels can pull off an upset? Anything is possible. According to the confidence the Rebels are displaying, they believe so. Although that outspoken confidence did not bode so well for them last year when quarterback Bo Wallace made comments that came back to bite him you know where, according to Bleacher Report.

“I think we can put points on anybody. We just have to show up and play…”

Alabama walked away with a 25-0 against Ole Miss that day. Not a pretty sight.

And while Alabama said nothing about the comments prior to the game, Crimson Tide let it all go after the game. Bleacher Report recalls Crimson Tide’s junior defense end Jeoffrey Pagan’s statement.

“After hearing all the trash they were talking in the media, it just really played a big role for us to come out and dominate these guys.”

It is most certain that Bama has heard Prewitt’s statements. Probably not a good idea for Prewitt to speak with the press again before Saturday’s game.
