Kate Middleton ‘More Intelligent Than The Rest Of The Royals’: Feminist Author Blasts Royal Family

Bestselling author and feminist thinker Germaine Greer blasted the Royal Family in an interview this week, saying, among other things, that Kate Middleton was “a great deal more intelligent than the rest of the royals.”

Ms. Greer added that Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge has a “bast**d of a job” looking after William.

In a Newsweek article published Thursday, also containing this poll reported by The Inquisitr showing that most British women would not want to be in Kate’s shoes, Greer gave her opinions of the Dutchess’ position in the Royal Family.

Greer sympathized with Middleton, saying that she shouldn’t have to go through having another child after her problems with her first pregnancy. The media has documented Kate’s troubles with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, or severe morning sickness, which E! Online reported caused her to cancel a trip to Malta recently.

“The girl is too thin. Meanwhile, she is vomiting her guts up and shouldn’t have been made to go through all this again so soon. It’s not so much that she has to be a womb, but she has to be a mother. I would hope after this one she says, ‘That’s it. No more’.”

She also commented on Kate’s lack of freedom in her marriage and inability to be her own person.

“Kate is not even allowed to decorate her own houses. Even the wives of the American presidents get to do that. The whole thing is a mad anachronism. The ‘firm’ tell us that the first born will now become the monarch regardless of sex. Well, big f**king deal! Kate is not allowed to have an interest in modern culture, even in art – to collect, to attend openings. She is made to appear absolutely anodyne. She cannot do or say anything spontaneous. She has learned what she has to do and say and how to do and say it in the approved way. Spontaneity will get her in trouble.”

Marina Warner CBE, a distinguished writer who has made a career of studying the deeper myths of European culture, agrees with Greer.

“The most insidious and virulent aspect of [Kate’s] position – the clothes horse side of things – means she cannot strike a blow for women except for the most ironic way. But it is significant that she has had a proper education and this gives her real status.”

However, Warner, in comparing Middleton to Princess Diana, feels the Duchess will not suffer the same “Greek tragedy” fate as Diana did.

Not everyone agrees with Greer, though. Caroline Watson, director and co-founder of Progressive Women, feels that Kate is quietly changing the way women will be viewed in the royal family.

“We have seen change in terms of the royal family in recent years, and I think Kate represents a different era, but she hasn’t spoken.”
