Duchess Of Cambridge Set To Resume Duties, Say Royal Aides

Kate Middleton has spent most of her pregnancy so far suffering from a severe form of morning sickness that has interfered with her official duties. Most recently, the Duchess of Cambridge was forced to cancel her first official solo visit, planned for Malta’s 50th anniversary of independence, leaving Prince William to go in her place.

The Daily Mail is reporting today that the Duchess is apparently feeling well enough for the palace to start filling up her official schedule once again. A source told the Mail that plans for the Duchess’ next public engagements are already in place.

“There will be engagements in October and November. We just haven’t announced them yet.”

The palace was forced to announce the Duchess’ second pregnancy early because of her absence at an event in Oxford three weeks ago, where she would have joined Prince William. According to the Mail, the Duchess has not had a charitable engagement since July, when she visited a school in North London.

Duchess Kate is being cared for at Kensington Palace for hyperemesis gravidarum. During her first pregnancy, she was treated in hospital for the condition.

Recently in The Guardian a woman who also has the condition clarified its severity from the perspective of someone living with it.

“Quite frankly, the comparison of hyperemesis to morning sickness is like breaking your arm in several places and then being told you’ve just knocked your funny bone.”

The woman, Miriam Phillips, said the condition was diagnosed in her case when two weeks of dehydration caused her to have blackouts. Phillips said medical professionals were more sympathetic during her second pregnancy, although she is not certain that is because of the awareness raised by the Duchess of Cambridge.

As for William and Kate, the Mail source confirmed that the couple will eventually move into their home in Norfolk. Now that the Duchess appears to be ready to resume her royal duties, that may happen sooner rather than later.

“While they will be predominantly living in Norfolk, the intention is for Kate to hop between London and Norfolk while looking after Prince George.”

Meanwhile, a Newsweek poll of 2,099 British adults found that the majority would not want to be Kate. The words most associated with the Duchess were “Attractive,” “Kind,” and “Intelligent,” while the words least associated with her were “Feminist,” “Lazy” and “Inferior.” 65 percent of the poll respondents said Kate is a very positive or fairly positive role model for young girls.
