Catherine Goins Wanted Kids, So She Murdered Their Mother

Tennessee woman Catherine Goins desperately wanted to be a mother. So much, in fact, that she was willing to take some else’s mother away. Goins has been charged with shooting 30-year-old mother of two Natalia Roberts dead in what appears to be an attempt to take Roberts’ children as her own, reported the Daily Mail.

Police seem confident Catherine is guilty of the alleged crime. Goins initially claimed that Natalia entered a Georgia home where she was staying and was subsequently shot by Catherine in self-defense. As more of the case has come to light, Goins is looking less guilty of home protection and more guilty of murder, Catoosa County sheriff Gary Sisk told Northwest Georgia News.

“Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, Catherine Goins murdered Natalia Roberts at 227 Smoketree Circle. We’re calling it murder, because that’s what it is. She flat out murdered her… She lured her there under the pretense of giving her some baby clothes for her newly born baby. Once at the residence, Natalia was going down a flight of stairs where Catherine Goins shot her in the back of the head with a.380-calibur handgun.”

After killing Roberts, Catherine put Natalia’s children in her car and fled the premises — without so much as attempting to contact authorities first, according to Sisk.

“She called the homeowner Tony Richards, and told him that she had shot someone in his house. Tony instructed her to hang up and call 911. Instead, Catherine Goins took Natalia’s two children that were at the residence, one 3 years old and one 3 weeks old, put them in her car and left the residence… She (Goins) did come back [for questioning] but there was still a lot of information we needed to obtain.”

Through piecing together the last few months of Catherine’s life, police have arrived at the conclusion that Goins’ motive for ending Roberts’ life did, in fact, have to do with taking her children. Catherine lured the young mother, who police say she did not know prior to the incident, to her home with the promise of giving her some baby clothes. But Goins’ twisted drive to be a mother began long before the night Natalia died, said Sisk.

“Catherine Goins had been living a ruse that she was pregnant with her most recent boyfriend’s baby, but he had recently learned that she was not pregnant and left her. Catherine Goins killed Natalia Roberts because she wanted her baby.”
