‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Spoilers: EP Talks Doppelgangers, Tripp and Mystic Falls

The Vampire Diaries season 6 is coming up quickly and there have been a lot of speculation on what to expect when the show returns. Executive Producer Caroline Dries recently revealed some exciting details on what fans can expect to see as well as what will not be written in the script this season.

The doppelgangers have been part of the storyline in previous seasons, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in season 6 of The Vampire Diaries. According to HitFlix, Caroline Dries explained how the writers are avoiding using doppelgangers in The Vampire Diaries this season, but sometimes it can be difficult.

“I just finished episode 10. We haven’t said it once in 10 episodes. In the writers’ room sometimes we’ll be like, ‘Ugh. Maybe this is a doppelganger thing’ and like, ‘Nope. Don’t say that word. Somebody think of a different idea.’ We’ve been pretty diligent about that. And I’m pretty sure if we say it, it’s just to make fun of it. I really am proud of actually the whole doppelganger thing, but I get it. It’s like, ‘We did that story, so moving on…'”

The Vampire Diaries will also introduce some new characters when it returns. Tripp (Colin Ferguson) will debut in the season 6 premiere episode as the leader of a community watch group, intent on doing whatever is necessary to protect the town. This character and the group will give Matt (Zach Roerig) something to do with his time. Dries explains that the character of Tripp came about because they wanted to show Matt thriving in the town without the supernatural beings and not having his life threatened constantly. Tripp will be like a father figure or coach to Matt and will represent a normal person’s view on the vampire world. As a bonus tidbit, The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer said that Tripp will not necessarily be a good guy or villain.

As for the Traveler spell on Mystic Falls and how Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) will return home, Caroline (Candice Accola) is going to be working overtime to fix things. Since supernatural beings cannot step foot in their town as long as the spell is active, the setting for season 6 will be at Whitmore College, where many of the characters are attending their sophomore year of college. Alaric (Matthew Davis) has returned, along with many others, and will go back to educating others. Alaric will be teaching Occult Studies at Whitmore College and the Executive Producer admitted that he has some emotional baggage, but will internalize a lot of it.

The Vampire Diaries season 6 trailer shows everyone is going to have a difficult time with their grief, especially Elena (Nina Dobrev). She hallucinates Damon, who urges her to move on. Also, Stefan (Paul Wesley) will be going on a journey and is seen in bed with a new girl, revealing his secret of being a vampire. TV Line recently posted an update on The Vampire Diaries Season 6. Look for the Salvatore brothers being seen together in episode 4, however the time won’t be the present. Damon and Stefan will be in a flashback in a time period that has not been seen on the show before.

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 premiere airs on the CW on Oct. 6.
