There are many people who have perfected President Bill Clinton’s southern drawl, but we never thought one of those people would be Matt Damon.
According to ABC News, Damon attended Clinton’s Global Initiative conference in New York City to promote clean water initiatives. While discussing just how well his organization Water.org is at outreach, Damon explained meeting with the former President. During the speech, Damon effortlessly switched into Clinton’s famous southern cadence to much laughter from the audience.
“The president has been great, and when we talked to him, to President Clinton a few years ago, he said, ‘just keep running those numbers up. Just run ’em up.”
President Obama was also in attendance. The President even made a joke at his own expense once he had to follow the big action star.
“Always wonderful to follow Matt Damon. I saw people trickling out after he was done. These are the hard core policy people who decided to stay for me.”
The Clinton Global Initiative was started ten years ago and these conferences happen annually. These meetings are an effort to bring thousands of people together to help in pressing on with global challenges we face as a society across the globe.
According to the site’s mission statement:
“We believe that the best way to unlock human potential is through the power of creative collaboration. That’s why we build partnerships between businesses, NGOs, governments, and individuals everywhere to work faster, better, and leaner; to find solutions that last; and to transform lives and communities from what they are today to what they can be, tomorrow.”
As for actor Matt Damon, aside from his killer Bill Clinton impersonation, he’s also an important voice in conserving water. He started Water.org in an effort to transform communities that need proper sanitation. So far communities in South Asia, Africa, and Central America have been affected by Damon’s organization.
According to the Water.org site, “In July 2009, WaterPartners merged with H2O Africa, resulting in the launch of Water.org. Water.org works with local partners to deliver innovative solutions for long-term success.”
Damon also nabbed headlines a few weeks ago for his ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for ALS. He was nominated by his Ben Affleck, but had a difficult time producing a video given that part of it was to waste water. Damon improvised and taped himself dumping toilet bowl water so he could still honor his organization and raise awareness for ALS.
