Paper Towels Versus Hand Dryers: Which One Is More Sanitary [Video]

AsapSCIENCE is very popular on Youtube for providing some of the most informative videos on scientific topics in the most entertaining way they possibly could. The Inquisitr reported on many of their videos, in which one of the latest explains how the brain is affected with coffee, or should I say caffeine. There are also many other science videos we did not necessarily from AsapSCIENCE but from others. I personally like the science behind cheese brought to us all by PBS.

Now, AsapSCIENCE uploaded a brand new video on their official Youtube channel, and it has to do with bathroom hygiene, or at least the drying of hands right after washing. The question they presented is if paper towels or hand dryers are more sanitary. It may sound like a mundane question, but for those who are germ sensitive (which to an extent is everyone), this video is for you.

The video was uploaded on September 18, 2014 and has over 625,000 views. Over 16,000 people have liked the video in which they know which method of drying to use more. A little over 200 people probably don’t wash their hands after using the restroom. Also, as of the publication of this article, this video is in the 100 most popular videos for Youtube list.

In all honesty, the video presents a lot of interesting points on cleanliness during the drying phase of hand washing and with all points analyzed, paper towels win. They explain the reason for this is that it doesn’t take long to dry hands with paper and that paper towels are actually cleaner than the air used for hand dryers. They included the fact that the longer hands are wet, the higher chance they have of getting germs. Also, hand dryers use bathroom air which may have germs too. There is more to it, but I am sure the video will explain it better.

What do you think about the video and the points it gave about paper towels versus hand dryers? Please let us know in the comments below.
