Budweiser Uses An Adorable Puppy Video To Promote Responsible Drinking [Video]

Anheuser-Busch has a long history of using animals in commercials to promote the purchase of their products. From adorable puppies, computer-generated frogs, and the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, Budweiser is the king of using animals to sell beer while adding humor and cuteness to their ads. However, for Budweiser’s annual Global Be(er) Responsible Day, Budweiser used the animals in a more serious advertisement. The video uploaded to their YouTube account promotes responsible drinking while still tugging at those heartstrings with an adorable “friends are waiting” motto.

In the video, we see the relationship between a man and his dog flourish through the years. The man leaves one night with a pack of Budweiser to go out with friends. The dog waits and waits but the man does not return. The caption then reads, “For some, the waiting never ended.” Fortunately, the man returns the next morning and tells his dog that he stayed over at a friend’s house so that he didn’t drive home drunk.

The about section of the video promotes proper planning for your return home after a night with Budweiser.

“Next time you go out, be sure to make a plan to get home safely. Your friends are counting on you. Enjoy Budweiser responsibly. #FriendsAreWaiting”

Most comments on the video seem positive. Many pointing out that responsible drinking should be a no-brainer in this day and age. However, many felt it was important for alcohol manufacturers to step up to the plate and tackle the issue head-on, such as with public advertisements like this one created by Budweiser.

What do you think of the drink responsibly ad? Was it effective? Does the use of one of Budweiser’s trademark dogs help the cause?
