Belle Knox Documentary: Duke Porn Star Says 5-Part Condé Nast Video ‘Really Humanizes Me’

Miriam Weeks, better known as “Belle Knox” — and perhaps even better known as the “Duke Porn Star” in honor of the university where she is a student — is the subject of a new documentary that is produced not by a purveyor of pornography, but by one of the country’s largest mainstream media corporations.

Condé Nast, the New York-based publisher responsible for such “brands” as Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Vogue and even Wired Magazine, produced the five part, online docu-series Becoming Belle Knox for the new Condé Nast digital outlet, The Scene. In fact, Knox says, the stalwart media giant came to her with the idea for the web series.

“I was approached by Condé Nast about doing a documentary about my life. I feel like with my story there are a lot of misunderstandings about who I am, and nuances about being a student and a sex worker,”said Belle Knox — who in her other life is an 18-year-old student from Seattle. “The documentary really humanizes me. I’m proof that porn stars can be real people.”

You can view the first installment of the five-part series below, in which Weeks aka Knox described how she took the first step into her porn career by searching for answers to the question “How To Be a Porn Star?” on Google.

Perhaps because it is the product of a major media firm, the Becoming Belle Knox documentary, though it contains some sexual content, is more or less SFW, or “Safe For Work.”

The true attraction of Becoming Belle Knox, then, is not the opportunity to watch Weeks have sex, but to gain some insight into what motivated her to enter a job that most young women would not consider as viable career option, and perhaps more interesting, what continued to drive her even after she was “outed” as a porn star by a fellow Duke University student earlier this year.

“I think my experiences have aged me,” Weeks says in Becoming Belle Knox. “I don’t have the mind of an 18-year-old. I kind of have the mind and the emotional baggage of somebody much, much older than me.”

But Weeks also says that, “I love the porn industry,” and that her experience performing in pornographic videos gives her the feeling of being “a strong, independent woman,” as, she says, “I travel around the country having sex with people.”

For those curious about the details of Weeks’s job — and in the documentary, she says that she does consider porn a job, and one which she does not always enjoy — Becoming Belle Knox portrays several off-camera moments, including her toweling-off sessions after filming a pornographic scene.
