Krispy Kreme Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost, Unveils ‘Ghostbusters’-Themed Doughnuts

There may be something strange — and sweet — coming to your local Krispy Kreme very soon. The doughnut shop franchise has joined forces with Sony Pictures to bring two very special kinds of doughnuts in honor of the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters.

According to a press release, Krispy Kreme will offer the special Ghostbusters doughnuts for a limited time and at select stores throughout the United States and Canada. These special doughnuts will be on sale from September 29 until October 31.

Krispy Kreme’s chief marketing and innovations officer, Dwayne Chambers, said the company is thrilled about the partnership with Sony to release these new doughnuts.

“We are truly excited to collaborate with Sony Pictures in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the iconic Ghostbusters brand. And we are delighted to bring our fans two delicious limited edition treats that are as unique, creative and joyful as this beloved film franchise.”

Here are more details about the two special treats that Krispy Kreme will soon sell, as described in the press release.

“Ghostbusters Doughnut: A marshmallow Kreme-filled shell topped with white icing, a decorative green ‘splat’ inspired by Slimer, and a Ghostbusters logo sugar piece.”

“Stay Puft Marshmallow: A marshmallow Kreme-filled shell topped with white icing, decorated with Stay Puft Marshmallow Man’s familiar face and a sugar piece hat.”

Some employees at E! Online were able to try the new Krispy Kreme Ghosbusters-themed doughnuts in advance of the store’s public release. While most of the responses were short and to the point, each of the people quoted seemed to really like them. And then there was one, who went unnamed, that gave a lot of detail as to what makes this new Krispy Kreme doughnut so good.

“Krispy Kreme donuts = delicious. Ghostbusters = amazing. Ghostbusters Krispy Kreme donuts = the week has peaked, which is a good thing since I’ll now be in a sugar coma through Friday. The crystallized sugar hat on the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was an especially sweet touch, albeit also the death knell for my blood sugar levels. Or maybe that honor should go to the marshmallow cream filling. Whatever, I’d eat another.”

While reporter Jenna Mullins agreed with the other comments, she mentioned that if a certain someone had unexpectedly arrived, the event would be a lot sweeter.

“The only thing that would have made the tasting party better is if Rick Moranis showed up.”
